10/7/2007 - US Olympic Trials Day 2
Today we got our job done like yesterday. We beat our primary competition in both races, scoring two 2nd place finishes. We are currently in 1 st place in the series and 8 points in front of the next men's team.
It was uncharacteristically hot and dry this morning. The locals call this kind of breeze the 'Santa Anna'. It is driven from a high pressure over inland California. Our race began in 4-5 knots, and still shifting left to the normal sea-breeze. We got a good start at the committee boat and had control of most of the fleet, though the best starts at the pin could cross us. We rounded the first mark in 3 rd place and finished the race in 2nd.
The breeze built for the second race. We started to windward of our main competition and tacked on them right when they tacked. We were 4 th at the first mark and passed into second on the downwind leg. We finished the race 2nd.
