Regatta Report

1/27/2005 - MOCR Race Day 3

Day 3 Rolex Miami OCR Conditions: 6-0 knots, drifting conditions, with no chop.

Sorry for the abbreviated report tonight. We have an early day on the water tomorrow, and we're all a little sun burnt and tired. Today was very mentally strenuous. There were shifts as big as 35+ degrees, which made racing very tough. You could go from first to last in one wind shift.

For race one highlights, check out www.t2p.tv You will have to create an account, but there is great coverage. We are the first 9 minutes of video, and its really good. They aren't very good at naming names, but we are mentioned a few times. We are boat USA 1713, and we have an American flag on our spinnaker. Have fun with it! We finished 4th. Race two was extremely difficult. We lost big on a shift, and rounded way back in the fleet. We worked our way through the fleet and went on to finish a surprising 6th. The Race Committee attempted a 3rd Race, in very harsh conditions.

The first leg was the shiftiest I have sailed in a very long time. We sailed our way up through the fleet, and rounded in 2nd. We immediately jibed around the mark, with the last dying breeze. We carried it away from the fleet, but the leaders got the last of the puff, and extended their lead substantially. We sat drifting for a few minutes hoping for a breath of wind to get us moving, and just as we did, the race organizers called off the race and sent us in for the day.

Overall results:
4th Overall
3rd Mens
2nd Mens US Team Qualifier

Tomorrow is forecasted for more of the same, if not worse, we'll see what happens! A cold front is expected to begin moving in tomorrow afternoon/ night that will bring rain, but more importantly wind! Friday is looking good for some breezy conditions!
