Regatta Report
10/12/2007 - US Olympic Trials Day 6
oday we placed 2nd and 1st in the two races. We hold an 18 point lead over the next men's team.
We have sailed 12 races. There are 4 more races in the series. Each team gets to discard their worst score in the series. Currently our worst score is a 6 th.
The racing in detail
The wind began very lightly for the first race. The swell was still large so boat-speed and boat control were tricky. We got a good start at the committee boat end of the line. We had control of the fleet and could choose where to go. We finished the race in 2 nd place.
In the second race the breeze had built to 10 knots. We were racing on very long courses for the size of the fleet. We did not have a good start but had great speed upwind. The lead boat at the first mark was OCS (disqualified for starting prematurely), so we were in 2 nd place. On the run we passed into first place, and we finished the race 1st place.
